Gravity Drain
Gravity Drain

GRAVITY DRAIN
(not available with every model)

A dedicated discharge path for your water feature.

The Gravity Drain upgrade adds a plumbed drain line to the bottom tray of your feature, giving the water somewhere to go in the event of overfilling.

Its primary purpose is protection against overfilling. Every Adagio feature includes a durable black plastic liner inside the lower tray.  Without a drain, the only way water escapes that liner is over its top edge — at which point it seeps between the liner and trim and eventually finds its way out through a bottom corner.

This is the single most common service call we get, and it's almost always the result of a well-meaning fill that went a half inch too far. With a gravity drain in place, water that rises past the intended level simply flows out to drain instead of finding a path it shouldn't. The safeguard is passive and always working, whether the feature is running or not.

The second benefit is easier maintenance. Without a drain, refreshing the water means siphoning or bailing the tray by hand. With one, you open the drain and the tray empties on its own — which makes the twice-yearly cleaning considerably less of a chore, and makes it practical to exchange water more often than that.

That last point matters more than it might sound. A water feature is a recirculating closed system: water evaporates, but the dissolved minerals it carried stay behind and concentrate over time. Periodically draining part of the volume and refilling with fresh water keeps that concentration in check, which means less mineral buildup on your stone and a longer service life for the pump. A drain makes this easy enough that people actually do it.

What to plan for:

  • Gravity does the work, so elevation matters. The discharge point must sit below the level of the tray. Your plumber or contractor will confirm the routing and fall during rough-in.
  • Plan it before the wall closes up. The drain line is routed as part of the feature's rough-in, so this is a decision to make during planning rather than after installation.
  • Where it discharges is up to your installer — a floor drain, a nearby waste line, or an exterior discharge for outdoor features are all common.

Gravity Drain can be ordered on its own, or paired with our Auto Fill upgrade for a fully hands-off system.
